(SOUTHERN COLORADO) — As the weekend approaches confidence continues to grow regarding the path of a seasonably strong storm set to move across Colorado on Saturday and Sunday. The path looks far enough south to bring some significant moisture to areas along and north of Highway 50 on Saturday, particularly in the late afternoon and evening. In fact, as the storm approaches, Saturday is likely to start pretty quiet with showers just to our south in New Mexico. As the storm lifts out of Arizona toward the four corners region during the day, moisture draws into the storm from the Gulf of Mexico and moves toward the mountains, making rain and embedded thunderstorms likely over Colorado. The moisture is likely to be significant too, with many areas north of Highway 50 likely to end up with between .5" and 1.5" of liquid by the time the storm ends on Sunday. By using the slider below and pulling it to the left you'll see that some of that water is going to fall as snow over the mountains north of Highway 50 - where some of the peaks could see a foot of snow as the snow level drops to near 10,000' by early Sunday.
