Meridian Police are searching for a suspect who fired several shots outside of the Mecca gym around 7:20 a.m. Thursday morning. The gym is in a busy shopping center at the intersection of Eagle Rd. and Ustick Rd. Several businesses were blocked off Thursday morning while police investigated. Many have since reopened, but the Mecca gym was still closed as of 11:15 a.m. BREAKING: Meridian Police searching for shooting suspectAccording to Meridian Police, people inside the Mecca gym noticed an individual outside who was "acting suspiciously". Some gym goers confronted the man and police say the suspect then produced a baton and eventually a handgun before firing off several shots. Police say no one was struck by the gun fire and there are no reported injuries, but the suspect is still on the run.Police say he is described as between 5'10"- 6' tall, with a brown short mohawk hairstyle, and was last seen wearing gray sweatpants and a dark hoodie. He left the parking lot heading north in a white Dodge Ram pickup truck. Police do not believe there is an active threat in the area. If you see someone who matches the suspect description you are urged not to approach him, and instead contact police at (208) 377-6790.
