BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Two people were injured after a fire at the Chevron Plant on Thursday, Sept. 19, according to the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office. The facility is at 36187 Louisiana 30 W., Geismar. APSO said deputies responded around 8:30 a.m. to a hazmat incident and "out of an abundance of caution, surrounding roadways were closed temporarily." They said the fire is now out and roads are back open. There were no reported off-site impacts, APSO said. More details about the medical status of the two people injured were not available at the time of APSO's release. 1 taken to hospital in critical condition after shooting on Coursey Boulevard, officials say Chevron released the following statement: "Chevron Renewable Energy Group experienced a fire at our Geismar, LA renewable diesel production facility on the morning of September 19. All employees have been accounted for, with two employees receiving treatment for burns. The fire has been contained with the support of local resources and the team is working to safely and methodically shut down the facility. We are extremely grateful to the local responders for their immediate response. We continue to learn more information and will be conducting a thorough review to understand the cause of the fire."
