LIST: Austinarea museums with free entry this Sunday

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austinites are welcomed to bask in the city's arts, cultural, history, music, nature and science museums for free this weekend as part of the 27th annual Austin Museum Day.
More than 30 museums within the greater Austin area are participating in this year's event, slated for Sunday. Those organizations include:
Art Galleries at Black Studies: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
On display: "Nicole Awai: In the thick of it" at Christian-Green Gallery and "Rashaun Rucker: Patron Saints of a Black Boy" at Idea Lab
Austin Museum of Popular Culture: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Austin music-related art and displays from the mid-1940s to present day
Bastrop County Historical Society Museum and Visitor Center: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Specialty exhibit "Stories Inked in Skin" explores history and cultural influences behind tattooing
Blanton Museum of Art: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Art displays across centuries and continents
Brush Square Museums: 12 to 5 p.m.
Visitors can create beeswax candles, decorate journals and learn pioneer skillsets at the two historic houses, the O. Henry Museum and Susanna Dickson Museum
Bullock Texas State History Museum: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Texas history displays and drop-in activities for families from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Capitol Visitors Center: 12 to 5 p.m.
Exhibits related to Texas history, the State Capitol and Texas land will be on display
Chateau Bellevue, Home of the Austin Woman's Club: 1 to 4 p.m.
Antiques on display include stained glass, hand-carved wood and other elements
The Contemporary Austin: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. (Jones Center) and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (Laguna Gloria)
Jones Center events: lint roller printing, photo collaging, family yoga, poetry and community talks
Laguna Gloria: weaving, lawn games and art exhibits outdoors
Elisabet Ney Museum: 12 to 5 p.m.
Portrait sculpting demonstration by a local artist along with interactive sculpting, portrait lessons and edible sculptures
Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center: 12 to 3 p.m.
Lowrider crafts and art, live music and "Chicano Classics: The Art of Lowriding" on display
Flower Hill Center: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Texas wildscape and historic Richmond Kelley Smoot home will be available to tour, along with staff on site available to discuss art collections, textiles and furniture still in the home
Harry Ransom Center: 12 to 5 p.m.
Current exhibitions "Public Works: Art by Elizabeth Olds" and "Visualizing the Environment: Ansel Adams and His Legacy" will be on display; interactive gallery tours offered
Hezikiah Haskell House: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Guided tours of the historic house, family activities and a performance by "Soul Man Sam" from 2 to 3 p.m.
Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Learning opportunities, arts and crafts activities, bird watching walks and the "Power the Migration" exhibit on display
Landmarks: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Hands-on art activities and exploration of museums across the University of Texas at Austin's 40 acres
LBJ Presidential Library: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with last admittance at 4 p.m.
Crafts, story time and an ofrenda to former President Lyndon B. Johnson and former First Lady Claudia Alta "Lady Bird" Johnson
MathHappens Foundation: activities available in the math room at the Austin Nature and Science Center
Mexic-Arte Museum: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Dia de los Muertos cultural lessons at the Austin Central Library along with crafts and performances
Millett's Opera House: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Tours of the historic 1878 Millett Opera House on the hour from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Sunday brunch is available from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. available to the general public but reservations are required
Museo Benini: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Save Austin's Cemeteries and Oakwood Chapel: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Walking tours of historic Austin cemeteries, including Oakwood and Evergreen
Science Mill: 12 to 5 p.m.
Exhibits, games and programming related to science, technology, engineering and math
Texas Military Forces Museum: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Lessons on Texas Military history and on-site tanks, helicopters, jets, jeeps, uniforms and weapons available
Texas Science & Natural History Museum: 1 to 5 p.m.
Galleries, scavenger hunts, galleries and dinosaur artifacts on display
Texas State Capitol: 12 to 5 p.m.
Self-guided tour of the Capitol, historic works of art on display
Texas State Cemetery: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Arts and crafts, games, food samplings and other historic lessons as part of Hispanic Heritage Month
Activities included both guided and self-guided exhibition tours along with activities for visitors of all age ranges. Those seeking questions or advice on Austin Museum Day can chat with staff and volunteers at the headquarters tent at the Bullock Texas State History Museum.
