Geneva at Perry football: Preview capsule for Sept. 20 game
Sep 19, 2024
Geneva at Perry
What: CVC crossover game
When: 7 p.m., Sept. 20
Where: Alumni Stadium
Records: Perry 3-1, Geneva 4-0
Last week: Geneva def. Lutheran West, 35-0, Perry def. Cleveland Central Catholic, 42-0
For the record: While this is a league crossover game that doesn’t count toward league standings, the winner will get a boatload of computer points toward playoff positioning. Perry handed Geneva its only regular-season loss last year, 36-20. … The Pirates hammered Cleveland Central Catholic last week in a rebound win after losing a triple-overtime game to Kirtland in Week 3. Walter Moses threw for 213 yards and a touchdown, but the starters didn’t play much in the second half. Owen McKoon and Carter Hopkins have anchored the run game, while Luke Sivon (15-270) is among the area leaders in receptions. … Geneva is again leaning on its run game this season, with Bryce Peet (399), Hayden Diemer (341), Luke Barbo (294) and Caden Proy (261) all having success on the ground. Barbo has thrown for 245 yards as well, but make no mistake, the Eagles are a run team. That run game might be the Eagles’ best defense, as running the ball can keep Perry’s high-scoring offense on the sideline. Perry’s defense is loaded, too, having given up 32 points in four games (22 coming to Kirtland).
