Shaker Heights at Benedictine What: Nonconference game When: 7 p.m., Sept. 20 Where: Don Shula Stadium at John Carroll University Records: Benedictine 3-1, Shaker Heights 2-2 Last week: Benedictine def. Strongsville, 21-17, Euclid def. Shaker Heights, 14-10 For the record: Benedictine rallied from a halftime deficit to beat Strongsville in Week 4, while Shaker Heights was upset by Euclid. Matthew Furst threw for 188 yards and two touchdowns last week, with Joey Pomnean catching nine for 93 and a touchdown and JJ Baldwin catching three for 50 and a score. If teams focus too much on the pass, then Jamere Church (27 carries, 131 yards) can shred a team on the ground. Maybe more impressive last week was the Benedictine defense, which gave up only 92 total yards (including only 25 in the passing game). … Shaker Heights, which boasts University of Oregon commit Trey McNutt, struggled to get its offense going last week against Euclid. The Raiders will want to ramp up the offense and the defense this week because Benedictine is certainly on the ascent as a program this year…. Shaker Heights leads the all-time series, 3-1, with the Bengals’ lone win coming in 2019 (36-6).
