New Jersey’s 10th Congressional District will remain blue.Democratic nominee LaMonica McIver defeated Republican nominee Carmen Bucco and two independents, Rayfield Morton and Russell Jenkins, in a special election Wednesday night for the seat of the late Rep. Donald Payne Jr., according to unofficial results. McIver addressed supporters in attendance at her primary election watch party at TRYP by Wyndham Newark Downtown.McIver, Newark’s council president, secured 25,994 votes, or 80.92% of the 32,116 votes reported as of 10:15 p.m. Bucco, a small business owner from Kenilworth, was second, landing 5,100 votes, or 15.88%.“Thank you NJ-10! Now let’s get back to work and win this in November,” McIver posted on X, formerly Twitter.Of the 544 precincts in the swaths of Essex and Union counties, and the portion of Hudson County, all of which is in Jersey City, 528 had been reporting vote tallies. Census data shows there are 554,492 people age 18 or older in the district.Back on July 16, McIver came out victorious in the special Democratic primary featuring 11 other candidates vying for the nomination.The list included the likes of former East Orange Councilwoman Brittany Claybrooks, as well as Hudson County Commissioner Jerry Walker, Linden Mayor Derek Armstead, New Jersey Redevelopment Authority executive Darryl Godfrey and former Payne staffer Shana Melius.The post McIver, a Democrat, Wins Big in Special Congressional Election for Payne’s Seat appeared first on Jersey City Times.
