Residents protest plans for housing development at former Saint Francis School

HONOLULU (KHON2) -- Residents of Manoa gathered today to protest plans by the Avalon Group to convert the old Saint Francis School campus into a housing development.

The proposed project includes 79 homes and 14 condominiums, which the developers have stated will not be classified as affordable housing.
However, they claim that approximately eight units will be priced within reach for most residents.

Community members voiced concerns over the potential for increased traffic and other issues that the development may bring to the area.
In response to fire safety concerns, the Avalon Group assured residents that an emergency access road would connect the property to enhance safety.

A public hearing regarding the "Aria Lane" development is scheduled for Monday, October 7, at 10:30 a.m., where residents will have an opportunity to express their opinions to city officials.
