Construction on the LAK-Bishop Road Bridge in Willoughby Hills continues but is planned to be completed in the next 30 days. Work began in July on the bridge located approximately mid-way between U.S. Route 6 and White Road, south of Evergreen Avenue, and it spans the Euclid Creek North Tributary. Demolition of the bridge began the week of June 17, requiring all traffic to follow the posted detour. The project was awarded to J.D. Williamson Construction Co., of Tallmadge. The work covered by the plans includes the replacement of the existing concrete slab bridge with a new concrete slab one, replacement of approach pavement, drainage, drive aprons for properties adjacent to the bridge, traffic control and a new guardrail. In 2023, Lake County commissioners unanimously adopted resolutions in moving several infrastructure projects forward, including the Bishop Road project. According to Lake County Engineer James R. Gills, agreements with the Ohio Department of Transportation for the project were well-received through County Engineers Association of Ohio as part of the extra money the state received through the Build Back Better Plan. The overall project cost for the Bishop Road bridge has been estimated at $900,000. Meanwhile, paving on Chardon Road is also continuing with Ronyak Paving. According to Mayor Chris Hallum, Ronyak is currently grinding the north side of the road. The south side of the road continues to be one-way only, going westbound. “We are asking drivers to be alert when traveling westbound through the construction area as there have been reports of drivers going the wrong way,” Hallum said. Should drivers need to travel east, the city is encouraging them to use either Eddy Road or White Road.
