San Diego police on Wednesday announced they have made an arrest in the slaying of a man who was shot and stabbed in the East Village. Police responding to the sound of gunfire found the victim on the sidewalk on 14th Street near Imperial Avenue around 7:40 p.m. Tuesday. The 53-year-old man died at a hospital, police Lt. Jud Campbell said. His name was not released. A group of people were gathered on the sidewalk when an altercation took place, Campbell said. One man shot the victim while another stabbed him during the fight. The two took off running in opposite directions. Police said officers arrested Alex Bailey, 53, on suspicion of murder. Bailey was reportedly taken into custody without incident during a traffic stop on National Avenue near South 28th Street around 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, Campbell said. Detectives are continuing to investigate, Campbell said.
