WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — It is time to unveil our third Game of the Week for the high school football season. We're staying in the GWAL this time around as the Wichita East Blue Aces are on the road against the Kapaun Mt. Carmel Crusaders. These teams split the Great Wichita Athletic League title a year ago, however, it was the Crusaders who came out with the victory in their week 2 matchup. Both teams look a lot different, but you know it's going to be a battle. "They're a very explosive team," said Kapaun's senior Quarterback, Dylan Burr. "I've been looking at their interior defense are pretty good up front. I don't know. I think their offense is new. So, they're kind of in the same situation as us. New offense and strong defense." Kapaun looks like they could be competing for a 4A state title the season after playing in the 5A state championship game, but none of that matters come kickoff on Friday night. "We keep them from scoring," explained Kapaun's senior safety, Jackson Daniel. "We keep them from getting big plays. And Stephanie going to be a different ballgame. We're just going to play ball, be physical with them like we think more physical we are. The sooner they'll crack under pressure or whatnot." In the last four years, the teams have gone 2-2 against each other. Kapaun head coach Weston Schartz says it's going to be a fun matchup Friday night. "We got to score, you know," added Schartz. "We've got to go put some points on the board because our defense is pretty tough. I think they can keep us in the game, but they can't be playing all night. We've got to move the ball, get some first downs, take advantage of their mistakes. But we have to put some points on the board. " When we look at the East High Blue Aces, they are coming off of a tough defeat in a defensive battle against the Northwest Grizzlies, 14 to 0. The Aces had a couple of possessions end inside the northwest 10-yard line squandering good opportunities to get on the scoreboard. "We've got to keep building the chemistry and just keep building up together and just keep playing strong together," said East's junior middle linebacker Pharrell Adams. "Hoping, you know, come out strong, win this game. Just keep rolling it every week and taking it week by week." While East struggled on offense, the defense played a solid game once again, and the arrow is pointing up as they prep for the Kapaun Crusaders. "They're a run-first team, so we'll just see," said East's senior Safety Jakdyn Mossallah. "We've got a defense for them, and we'll just see what they come with."
