METAIRIE, La. (BRPROUD) — The Saints preached wanting to start the season fast, especially quarterback Derek Carr. They've done just that, starting 2-0, with Carr leading the NFL in QBR and the Saints having the top scoring offense and point margin in the league. Historically, Carr wouldn't be off to as good of a start. He tends to struggle starting the season while learning a new offense. Take last year for example, he didn't seem comfortable until about the mid-point of the season. Part of what is leading to the success is the work Carr and the Saints put in during the offseason. The 11-year veteran described it as exhausting both mentally and physically. Carr ran through practices twice trying whatever he could to make this season different, taking advice from two greats, quarterbacks Drew Brees and Peyton Manning. New Orleans Saints’ Trevor Penning showing improvement in third season “I take advice from a lot of people," Carr said. "The people that I care about. Drew is one of them. I talk to him a lot. Peyton is another one. I'm thankful for those guys for giving me hours of their time during the offseason, and one of the things that I would hear while they're saying is just it's the reps, you know, those reps, reps, reps." "And I was like, that's awesome. How does that translate for me? The reps thing is like I always felt more comfortable towards the middle and end of seasons and I was like, what if I just get more reps beforehand? And it ended up and ended up helping. I'm so thankful for their time that they gave me because they poured into my life and it's benefited our team and I appreciate that," said Carr.
