New Orleans Saints' Trevor Penning showing improvement in third season

METAIRIE, La. (BRPROUD) — Other than quarterback Derek Carr, offensive lineman Trevor Penning probably takes the most criticism. He struggled his first two seasons and was benched in 2013, but now, Penning is making people eat their words.
Penning has allowed just two quarterback pressures and no sacks this season, which is a large improvement from last year when he allowed eight pressures in the same span and four sacks in five starts. It appears the fresh start switching from left to right tackle is helping Penning.
“I think there's some good moments. I think I'm playing well, but obviously there's still things I can improve on," said Penning. "You can say that every week but, there's things I'm going to come in here this week to improve and keep getting better each week.”

“I give him one compliment and I told him this," said Lucas Patrick, Saints left guard. "I had a former teammate who was going to be my guy if I was ever in a dark alley, needed someone. And that's now Trevor Penning because he's dependable, reliable, shows up to work every day.
"He's playing well. I mean, it's tough to flip sides. It's tough for expectations for anyone who's drafted in the first round. And I think he's taking that in strides and has gotten better each week and who knows where his ceiling is yet. I think it's only growing," said Patrick.
Penning is just a piece of a dominant Saints offensive line. The black and gold are third in rushing offense and Carr is the second least pressured quarterback in the league.
