BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Interim officials for the City of St. George are moving closer to reaching a common goal with Baton Rouge. On Tuesday, Sept. 17, Dustin Yates, interim mayor of St. George says he and the city's council members are agreeing to move forward with the intergovernmental agreement Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome proposed last month. "We want to get to agreeable terms and move on. And we want to be a great partner for East Baton Rouge Parish," said Yates. Yates responded to their first letter, saying their requests were simple, to transition some of the services that Baton Rouge provides over to St. George. "So, the services that, that we wanted to keep moving forward and then services that we want to transition to where we were going to handle our own," Yates said. Baton Rouge Police Department unveils mission and vision for Youth Advisory Council Yates and other council members approved the motion to come to a consensus on the proposal with Baton Rouge, saying they would discuss an agreement. Yates says he wants to keep moving forward and building solid foundations with the City-Parish. "Hopefully, we can come to terms here shortly with the City-Parish. I believe that we can. I believe that we're closer than what we think sometimes," Yates said.
