Police on Wednesday said they are looking for a “person of interest” in the chilling fatal shooting of a 23-year-old Queens man at his home. On Sept. 13, Jean Pierre Rengifo-Arteaga was found shot in the head, right forearm and stomach outside a two-family North Corona home — with bullet holes left in the door of the victim’s house. The shooter was described as 20-to-25 years old, and dressed in a beige shirt, beige pants, black shoes and a black skullcap. Video shows the suspect walk up to a gate and point a gun over a fence. A neighbor, who did not want to be identified, said he looked at camera footage at his home that showed a man walk up to the gate of the victim’s house and fire five shots at Rengifo-Arteaga as he was putting his keys into the front door. It’s unclear what sparked the attack, police said. Rengifo-Arteaga was said to be from Ecuador and lived alone, according to neighbors. “I think the boy was new here,” said one man who did not want to share his name. “He had been in this country three months.” EMS rushed Rengifo-Arteaga to Elmhurst Hospital but he couldn’t be saved. Police are asking that anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS.
