San Diego police are investigating after a man was killed in the East Village Tuesday night.
Police responding to the sound of gunfire found a victim suffering from gunshot and stab wounds on the sidewalk on 14th Street near Imperial Avenue around 7:40 p.m. The 53-year-old man was taken to a hospital, where he died, said police Lt. Jud Campbell.
His name was not released.
A group of people were gathered on the sidewalk when an altercation took place. One man shot the victim while another assailant stabbed him during the fight, Campbell said.
The two took off running in opposite directions. Police did not release a detailed description of the assailants.
Detectives are continuing to investigate and are analyzing evidence collected from the scene, Campbell said. They also are trying to locate witnesses and will see if there’s surveillance footage of the shooting.
