SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- AMR and Miramar College are teaming up to launch an all-female EMT training academy. Known as the "Earn While Your Learn" program, this 16-week course will train cadets to become emergency medical technicians. Once completed, the women will then be hired by AMR once they pass the national EMT exam. The program offers several perks like costs for tuition and books (covered by AMR) and hourly pay for the hours spent attending class. Another plus, cadets will be eligible for medical, dental, vision and 401K benefits. When the cadets are not in class, they will shadow AMR paramedics and EMTs as they respond to actual emergencies across San Diego County. They will also be paid for their time training with these local professionals.
