(KRON) -- The job of the media who cover the San Francisco 49ers is to observe what the players do on the practice field and in the games. During this past training camp, however, the roles were reversed, and tight end George Kittle had his eye on the reporters who cover him daily. The 2023 All-Pro noticed what the reporters had on their feet. Kittle was disappointed. "You guys really need to up your sneaker game. It's absolutely atrocious," Kittle, known to be a sneaker fanatic, said last month during a news conference. "Grant (Cohn of Sports Illustrated) wears Vans every single day... It's okay, but you wear those every day. So I need you to switch those up. "I observe all your guys' shoes, and I'm disappointed in you guys as a community, so if we can up those, please. It's Year 8 guys. Let's figure this out together." CBS Sports Bay Area's Matt Lively posted on X that he was sneaker shopping. Lively was browsing through pairs of Nike Dunk Low 1s -- a shoe that Kittle has seen wearing plenty of times. After poking fun at Cohn for wearing the same sneakers daily, Kittle gifted the reporter a pair of sneakers. Last week, Cohn tweeted that Kittle had sent him Sports Illustrated-customized white Nike Air Force 1s. "Figured I could lend a hand in helping you up your sneaker game," Kittle's note to Cohn read. It is unclear if other reporters were gifted a pair of shoes from Kittle. The 49ers tight end did not gift KRON4's Erin Wilson a pair of sneakers. That's likely because Kittle complimented Wilson's Nike Vomeros, calling them "fire" during an August press conference. The KRON4 49ers reporter was one of the few media members who had sneakers that were George Kittle-approved.
