SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) - Wednesday is National Cheeseburger Day, and the city of Savannah has no shortage of restaurants and bars that serve up the American delicacy. Here are five spots in the city to enjoy a cheeseburger. Poe's Tavern Located on 7 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard next to River Street, this Edgar Allen Poe-themed Tavern is very much like a dream within a dream. There are many sandwich options, with beef burgers, veggie burgers and chicken sandwiches. Among the old-fashioned beef burger selections are the Beef Pit and Pendulum, featuring applewood smoked bacon and cheddar cheese, Beef Amontillado, with guacamole, Jalapeno Jack Cheese, pico de gallo and chipotle sour cream, and the Beef Telltale Heart with fried egg, applewood bacon and cheddar. For the health-conscious folks, they have similar options like the Veggie Pit and Pend which uses a black bean patty with applewood bacon and cheddar cheese. If you don't want any meat, you can also try out their Veggie Raven, Veggie Amontillado or the Veggie Gold Bug which are just black bean burgers with cheese and other veggie toppings. They also have a variety of appetizers to snack on when waiting on your burger like chili cheese fries, chips and queso and nachos. Poe's Tavern is open from 11:00 a.m.-12:00 a.m. every day. Bandana Burger Dubbed Savannah's "all-inclusive burger destination", this pop-folksy restaurant on 4525 Habersham Street serves up mouth-watering burgers using locally-sourced ingredients. The menu is a spread of items tailored to any sort of burger enjoyer, such as The Rockstar, a beef burger with fried egg, hashbrowns and cheese, The Cholo, a black bean burger with guacamole, peppers and crispy onions and The Pirate, a salmon burger with crab and onions. The Con-artist one option for non-meat eaters that's made with an Impossible Burger with plant based dairy free cheese, pineapple and the regular fixings. They also have another called The Wook which comes with mushrooms, peppers, crispy onions and the fixings. Bandana Burger is open every day except Sunday. On Monday through Wednesday, they are open from 11:00 a.m.-3:00 a.m. and Thursday through Saturday from 11:00 a.m.-5:00 a.m. Crystal Beer Parlor This bistro can be found at 301 East Jones Street. The menu boasts classic cheeseburgers and new culinary creations. There is the Mountain Jam burger, which includes smoked gouda "local beer" cheese. If a beef patty isn't enough, there is a lamb and bison burger that may suit your fancy. For the folks that prefer a smash burger, don't worry, the Crystal Beer Parlor has a CBP Smash burger. A veggie burger is also on the menu which they say is made fresh in-house. The starters list offers a giant pretzel, fried duck wings, fried pickles and onion rings for you to enjoy while waiting. Also, they have a long list of house beers to choose from, if that tickles your fancy. Crystal Beer Parlor is open from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. every day except Monday. Sly's Sliders and Fries 1710 Abercorn Street houses a small but mighty treasure known as Sly's, a joint that specializes in sliders. The mini burgers come in plenty of options, ranging from a classic slider called The Boardwalk to their a Shroomwhich which is loaded up with marinated mushrooms. They also offer a house made black bean slider called the Budda Burger. If you're wanting a variety, no worries, they also have sliders with salmon, falafel, brisket and chicken. It doesn't stop with miniature burgers though, there are also hot dog sliders with different toppings to choose from. Sly's is open every day except Wednesday from 11:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m. Green Truck This neighborhood pub can be found at 2430 Habersham Street and the burgers are not to be missed, with or without a pint. Included on their list of burgers is The Lone Star, a bacon cheeseburger that features their homemade chipotle BBQ sauce. The Trailer Park burger even has the owners' family recipe pimento cheese. Others are burgers like the Greek style burger with feta cheese, olive tapenade, banana peppers, cucumber slices and the regular fixings or the El Jefe which has cheddar cheese, black bean and corn salsa, avocado, jalapenos, also with the usual fixings of lettuce tomato and onion. Each burger includes 1/3 pound of Hunter Cattle’s Grass-fed beef, grilled Humane-Certified chicken breast or homemade veggie patty. All burgers come with a choice of fries or slaw. If you need or would like a gluten free bun, they have them available for an additional $2.50. Green Truck is open from 11:30 a.m.-10:00 p.m. every day except for Sunday.
