Six private colleges in the Inland Empire have made the Top 20 on a national list for Best Student Experience. All five Claremont Colleges and California Baptist University in Riverside are in the Top 20, with Scripps in the No. 1 spot. The list is a project of The Wall Street Journal and data platforms College Pulse and Statista. The survey went to college students and recent graduates throughout the United States and was based on campus facilities, social life and diversity. It included the colleges’ price tags, but that did not affect the overall score. Campus facilities made up 33% of the score, with this rating based on food, housing and extracurricular activities on campus. Community and social life comprised another 33% and looked at student satisfaction with sense of community, party scene, campus sustainability, safety and emotional and mental-health support. Diversity accounted for another 33% and examined the ethnicity, inclusion of students with lower family incomes, disabilities and opportunities to interact with students from different backgrounds.
