RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) --The pesky storms system that has delivered the rainfall to us for the past several days is about to work its way offshore and allow for a return to nicer weather for the end of the week. Showers will be winding down through the evening hours over the region with the heaviest of the rainfall south of the James River. Overnight we will be left with clouds and drizzle as the lows fall back to the mid to upper 60s. Tomorrow, the clouds will break up in the middle of the day and allow for us to turn partly sunny. There is enough lingering moisture in the region to allow for a few pop-up showers and storms to develop over us.  Highs will be warming up to around 80 degrees. Friday the skies will be partly cloudy with highs reaching into the lower 80s.  We might see a shower or two pop up over the mountains, but they would not be coming our way. The weekend looks to be very nice for us with mostly sunny skies.  It will be in the lower 80s on Saturday. For the first day of fall on Sunday, you can expect to see highs back into the middle 70s. Next week, there will be a chance of showers in the middle of the week.   Meanwhile, a close eye will be kept on the Gulf of Mexico.  Long range models show a potential tropical system developing there.  However, the models are all over the Gulf as to where the system forms and possibly makes landfall. That will need to be watched.
