MEMPHIS, Tenn -- A fire broke out at a house that also served as a non-profit animal rescue on Sunday morning in Bartlett, according to Bartlett police. The cause of the fire is under investigation. WREG is working to find out how many animals were in the home at the time of the fire and how many died. We've asked Bartlett Police and the city that question several times the city would not provide any specific numbers telling us the case is under investigation. While police were back at the home today not far away at a separate location, WREG saw officers at what looked to be a warehouse or garage. People in that area say they were there in connection to the fire. But, police have not confirmed that information.  Several dogs killed in fire at Bartlett animal rescue "It's still surreal. I can hardly look at the house, it was such a scene of tragedy," said Kevin Quinn, Bartlett Alderman. He says the homeowners temporarily brought over some cats and dogs from another location where they were doing some cleaning when the fire broke out.  "They've just been longtime advocates for animals and this is tearing them apart," said Quinn. While we were at the home, a woman who seemed to be associated with the property stopped by, but said she would not answer any questions about the case.  WREG has also submitted a "Freedom of Information Act" request to the city for more information about the fire. We'll let you know as we learn more.
