Governor Andy Beshear signs order banning conversion therapy in Kentucky

FRANKFORT, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Governor Andy Beshear signed an executive order that will officially ban conversion therapy in Kentucky. He signed the order at 10 a.m. in Frankfort.
Beshear was joined by leaders from several advocacy groups, including the Kentucky Mental Health Coalition, the Fairness Campaign, the Kentucky Psychological Association, and the National Association of Social Workers Kentucky Chapter.
According to the American Psychological Association, conversion therapy is a controversial practice that attempts to change an individual’s sexual orientation or gender identity. The executive order will prohibit the use of this therapy in the Commonwealth.
