KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Platte County Sheriff's Office is investigating an early morning shooting that left one man dead after he allegedly tried to break into a home, deputies said. According to law enforcement, at about 9 a.m. Wednesday, reports of a "suspicious person" standing outside a home on Masonic Dive -- located just east of Main Street in Dearborn, Missouri -- came into the sheriff's office. Man killed in overnight shooting in Kansas City, Kansas The homeowner called deputies and reported a partially clothed man demonstrating "erratic behavior" outside of their home. The homeowner then said the man had attacked the their dog and attempted to forcibly enter the home. Deputies said that is when the homeowner shot and killed the intruder. When law enforcement arrived, the man was found dead at the entrance of the home. The Platte County Sheriff's Office said his identity is currently unknown, however, he is described as being white and around 30-40 years of age. As a result of the deadly shooting, a nearby school, North Platte High School, was advised to go under lockdown from the the sheriff's office. Man fighting for life after being hit in three-car crash in Kansas City The school was under a lockdown for about one hour until deputies reassured the school that the shooting was off-campus and unrelated to the high school.
