HONOLULU (KHON2) -- A 17-year-old who was arrested in connection to a shooting at Ohikilolo Ranch in February has been charged as an adult. "A witness reported the 39-year-old victim had been arguing with hunters about the hunter's dog attacking the victim's steer," revealed HPD's Lt. Deena Thoemmes at the time. "The argument escalated when one of the hunters shot the victim. The hunters then fled on foot towards Farrington Highway." The victim, Cranston Pia, was pronounced dead at the scene. Court records state that the witness had attempted to intervene in the altercation when the suspect, identified as Chantston Pila Kekawa, pushed them and said "I going shoot you too." While the witness walked around the back of Piaʻs vehicle, they heard a single gunshot and saw Pia fall to the ground. Kekawa and two young males were seen by the witness leaving the area after the shooting. Two days later the teen was charged with murder in the second degree, firearms charges and terroristic threatening. With Halloween around the corner, Honolulu horror fans talk about why they love horror Kekawaʻs attorney told KHON2 at the time that he had received a waiver from the prosecutorʻs office seeking to charge the teen as an adult. The case was transferred from family court to the criminal division of circuit court on Sept. 17. Kekawaʻs bail was set at $1 million.
