DEER PARK, Texas (KIAH) -- Wednesday at 6 p.m., Deer Park residents are being allowed to return home after this week's evacuation due to the pipeline fire that has burned for more than two days. Crews continue to repair essential infrastructure involved, and that should be done by 6 p.m. Thursday, September 19. After those repairs are finalized, the fire is expected to be fully extinguished two to three hours after that. The nearby highway that's been closed for the longest duration, Spencer Highway, remains closed between Luella Avenue and East/Canada Boulevard. However, authorities strongly advise avoiding the area till Deer Park Police finishes their investigation. AIR QUALITY MONITORING Though residents are being allowed to return home, the public should be aware that air quality will continue to be monitored by Harris County Pollution Control, Harris County HAZMAT, and a third-party contractor. Harris County Public Health is reviewing the data to determine impact on the surrounding community's air quality. Area residents are also being thanked for their patience and encouraged to contact the Energy Transfer helpline at (855) - 430-4491. You can also email [email protected] for further information.
