COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– After the 2020 census resulted in some redrawing of districtsM, longtime Senator Nikki Setzler retired from serving District 26. Another longtime senator, Dick Harpootlian, lost in the Democratic primary to Russell Ott in his bid to represent the newly drawn district. Now, Representative Ott faces off against Republican Jason Guerry for the Senate seat. Republican Jason Guerry hopes to represent state senate District 26 which includes parts of Richland, Lexington and Calhoun Counties. The district includes downtown Columbia where Guerry hopes to see more investment. His opponent, Democrat Russell Ott, believes Soda City can attract more tourists. Ott currently represents House District 93, which includes Calhoun County, and is proud of the work he has done so far at the statehouse. No matter who wins, there will be new representation in the Senate 26 seat and both candidates think they are the best man for the job.  ABC Columbia’s Alex Tejada sat down in our studios.
