According to the Pueblo Police Department (PPD), officers responded to the 1500 block of East Abriendo Avenue, near I-25, around 7 p.m. Monday, after janitorial staff reported hearing glass break and footsteps. They saw a suspect, later identified as 49-year-old Michael Romero, inside the building.
Janitorial staff tried to keep Romero inside the building and chased him. They briefly detained him, but he escaped, according to PPD. Police Chief Chris Noeller arrived at the scene and took Romero into custody. Officers found items in Romero's belongings that may have been stolen from another business or home.
PPD said that while they do not encourage citizens to interact with suspects committing crimes, the quick actions of the employees in this case resulted in the suspect's arrest.
