Speed A Factor In Fatal Vehicle Collision In Wilkes County

ROARING RIVER, N.C. – The NC State Highway Patrol is investigating a vehicle collision in Wilkes County that resulted in the death of a 27-year-old woman, according to a news release.
The release states that on September 18, the Highway Patrol responded to a collision at 9:40 a.m. on Greenhorn Road in Roaring River.
The investigation indicates that a 2005 Chevrolet Impala was driving west on Greenhorn Road when the driver lost control of the vehicle and drove off the left side of the road and struck a tree.
The driver, 27-year-old Kayla Combs, succumbed to her injuries. Highway Patrol says she was not wearing a seatbelt and excessive speed was a contributing factor in the collision.
