WILLISTON, ND (KXNET) — A dispute in Williston has resulted in one man facing charges after an investigation revealed that he failed to update his sex offender registration.
According to the Williston Police Department, on September 12, officers were dispatched to assist after receiving reports of a dispute in a white Jeep Cherokee. When police arrived at a gas station where the vehicle was spotted, they made contact with two individuals: a man and a woman.
During the encounter with police, the man stated that he was released from jail "a month or two ago," and had been driving the Jeep twice a day for approximately one week. He also mentioned that he was using a friend's cell phone after losing his, and did not know his number.

The man in question is required to register as a sexual offender with a lifetime registration status after two convictions in Williams and Divide County District Court, and update this designation twice per year. The suspect stated that he listed his current address at the motel — but also that he changed rooms three days after registration. However, when interviewed, Super 8 Motel staff stated that he was not listed as a guest or resident as of September 5th.
The suspect proceeded to inform the officer that he had also stayed at the Econo Lodge and the Roosevelt Hotel "at some point" (although neither of these was registered either).
The man is currently being charged with Failure to Register as a Sex Offender, a Class C Felony.
