Sep 18, 2024
BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — The 43rd Bismarck Marathon is taking place at the North Dakota State Capitol Grounds over the weekend.
New for this year, the race is happening on Saturday and Sunday. Previous years had the race take place across three days starting on Thursday.
Saturday's races — the SCHEELS 5K and Sanford Health 10K — will begin at 8:30 a.m., with a free kids race in the Bartlett & West Kids Mini Marathon and a dog race in the Mandan Automotive BisBark4K happening afterward.
Voting is a privilege in North Dakota
Sunday's races — the MDU Resources Full, Basin Electric Half, and BNSF Railway Relay — will start at 7:30 a.m.
"We are thrilled to continue this 43-year tradition with a move to a new schedule format featuring a weekend of races and festivities for people of all ages," said Patrick Johnson, a co-race director. "This race has worked hard to do so much for our community throughout the years by engaging runners to promote health and wellness while making significant annual contributions to local charities. We invited the community to pull up a lawn chair and come out to cheer on some amazing humans."
Since 2007, the event has donated $387,090, with $145,550 being in the last three years. This year alone, the Bismarck Marathon has donated $55,125 to 28 charities.
