ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — The Fairport Central School District is changing the start and end times for its schools. Starting in the 2026-2027 school year, all students grades kindergarten through 12th grade will see those times shifted. Middle and high school start times won't be until later in the morning, but elementary school start times will be earlier. Fairport's Board of Education made this decision to accommodate the sleep schedule for older students. According to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, children between 13 and 18 years old need eight-to-10 hours of sleep per day. Students’ back-to-school alarms ring as experts fight for later morning start times "The Board of Education’sresolution to shift school start and end times to better align with science is a natural step in this direction and coincides with the District’s commitment to the wellbeing of our students," Superintendent Brett Provenzano said in a statement. The Fairport Central School District posted the following times on its website. These times are only an example of a shifted school day and are subject to change: Dudley –  7:45 a.m. to 2:05 p.m. Northside – 7:45 a.m. to  2:05 p.m. Brooks Hill – 7:45 a.m. to  2:05 p.m. Jefferson Avenue – 8:25 a.m. to  2:45 p.m. Johanna Perrin –  8:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Martha Brown – 8:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Fairport High School (grades 9-12) –  9:00 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.
