FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE) — The Fall River Police Department is reminding drivers and residents to look out for Eastern Box Turtles after helping one safely cross the road. Police officers William Medeiros and Nelson Brum spotted a turtle crossing the road and helped bring it to the other side safely. The department reminds residents that if they see a turtle, they can help it cross the road, but removing it from its territory is prohibited by law. Eastern Box Turtles are a species of special concern under the Massachusetts Endangered Species Act. Anyone that has information on a turtle removed from the woods should contact the Fall River Environmental Police. Categories: Fall River, Massachusetts, News
