WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — Warwick Public School bus drivers have reached a tentative agreement with contractor First Student, avoiding a potential strike, according to Amalgamated Transit Union Local 618-Providence, RI (ATU).
Members of ATU and First Student reached the agreement after months of bargaining, which culminated in a two-day bargaining session.
The agreement includes wage increases, retirement security and other improvements.
“Our members stood strong and united and fought hard for a fair contract,” said Local 618 President/Business Agent Walter Melillo.
“We are thankful for the outpouring of support from our parents and teachers. After months of negotiations, this contract recognizes our members for the heroes they truly are.”
The union and First Student have been bargaining since April, and the union voted on August 6 to authorize a potential strike.
ABC6 reached out to First Student for comment.
