WILKES COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — One person was killed in a single-car crash Wednesday morning, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol reported.
According to a news release, on Wednesday around 9:40 a.m., NCSHP responded to a crash in Wilkes County on Greenhorn Road near North Lomax Road. A 2005 Chevrolet Impala was said to be traveling west on Greenhorn Road when the driver lost control, crossed the center line, drove off the left side of the road and struck a tree.
The driver, Kayla Mae Combs, 27, of Elkin, was pronounced dead at the scene. Combs was allegedly not wearing a seatbelt.
The initial investigation found excessive speed to be a factor in the crash.
