RALEIGH, N.C. (WGHP) — If a state-wide bar-crawl sounds up your alley, North Carolina is debuting a new thing just for you. According to the North Carolina DOT, NC By Train is now partnering with the N.C. Craft Brewers Guild for the "N.C. Ale Trail by Rail," which they say will combine the ease of traveling by train with the exploration of North Carolina's beer scene. “NC By Train has experienced record ridership the past two years, and 2024 has been no different,” Jason Orthner, NCDOT Rail Division director, said. “This partnership is a great opportunity to encourage riders to explore everything North Carolina has to offer including the vibrant craft brewery market while supporting local businesses.” Riders will be able to use the Piedmont and Carolinian trains to ride to stop in communities and tour the brewers in the area. The designated stops for the ale trail are Charlotte, Kannapolis, Salisbury, High Point, Greensboro, Burlington, Durham, Cary and Raleigh. “We are delighted to partner with NC By Train to introduce this new and novel way for visitors and residents alike to explore the craft breweries of North Carolina,” said Lisa Parker, Executive Director of the N.C. Craft Brewers Guild. “As community gathering hubs, our North Carolina breweries offer welcoming taproom and tasting experiences.” You can visit the N.C. Craft Brewers Guild online to find an interactive map of the participating breweries. All of the breweries are within five miles of a train station, which they say will make it easy for passengers to make multiple stops in one day. There are other special NC by Train programs running this fall, including stops to the N.C. State Fair and the Lexington Barbeque Festive in October and earlier train stops in Charlotte on the days of Carolina Panthers home games.
