Photo: Sumter County Sheriff's Office   SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– A teen has been arrested in connection with a shooting that wounded one and took the life of another, say deputies. Investigators say 17-year-old Jonathan Brown is accused of killing 16-year-old Jayvion Jones and wounding another 16-year-old. The investigation began on September 3, 2024, when six teens were shot at while in a car, according to Sumter County deputies. Brown was identified as a suspect and a search warrant by the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office was executed at his home. Evidence found during the execution of the search warrant included fentanyl and a stolen gun. He was arrested for trafficking fentanyl and possession of a stolen gun and taken to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center. As the investigation continued, investigators say they were able to link Brown to the September 3, shooting. After law enforcement found that evidence, Brown was served with additional warrants including murder. He is being charged with murder, 5 counts of attempted murder, discharging firearm into vehicle while occupied, trafficking fentanyl, possession of a stolen pistol, possession of a pistol by a person under 18, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. The 17-year-old remains in the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center and is being held pending a bond hearing before a circuit judge. Sumter County Sheriff’s Office says the case remains under investigation.
