(PUEBLO COUNTY, Colo.)—The Pueblo County Sheriff's Office (PCSO) is warning the public about a Facebook page that looks "legit" but is a scam. PCSO said the scammers portray themselves as a "friend" on Facebook, but the account has actually been hacked. On the post, the scammers say they are selling items, usually priced at a too-good-to-be-true cost. The post states they are selling items due to placing a parent in assisted living and need money to pay for their care. Scammers will ask for a down payment/deposit on the items. Deputies say to not give personal information such as social security number, email address, bank account, or credit card number. The Sheriff's Office posted the image above as an example of a scam on Facebook. Courtesy: Pueblo County Sheriff's Office. PCSO offers a few suggestions on how to spot a scammer: Check with the person posting the information if they are selling items and have not had their account hacked. A possible online scam seller only accepts wire transfers or other non-reversible payments. Possible scam sellers don't or won't meet in person. They ask for a deposit or pre-payment. If you think you have been scammed or suspect someone has accessed your financial accounts or unauthorized payments have been made, contact your financial institution. If you think a crime has been committed, contact law enforcement.
