Friends of the Nevada State Museum If you are looking for something to do in the Carson City, Lake Tahoe or Reno areas this week look no further than the Nevada State Museum. We have a busy week ahead and hope you can join us for some or all of the events. Wednesday Sept. 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. come meet the local businesses and artisans who supply the Museum Store with our local sourced products and art pieces. The Museum Store has the reputation of the to go place for Nevada items, come meet the people who make this possible! New Exhibit Friday Sept. 20 at 9:30 am join us in the Historic U.S. Mint Building for the ribbon cutting on the Museum’s newest exhibit “Mint to Museum.” Curator of History Emeritus Bob Nylen will be on hand for the ribbon cutting and to answer questions about this new exhibit which tells the history of the Carson City Branch of the U.S. Mint and the eventual transition of the building to the first Nevada State Museum. Event is open to the public, regular admission applies. Mint Coin Show Friday Sept. 20, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and continuing Saturday Sept. 21 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. the Museum in conjunction with Northern Nevada Coin is bringing back the Carson City Mint Coin Show! Come see some amazing and rare coins and collectibles from around the west from 12 separate vendors. This is a can’t miss for the Coin Collector in your life. Coin Press No. 1, the original Coin Press machine which operated in the Carson City Mint from 1870 until 1893 will be minting commemorative replica “Liberty Seated” medallions on Nevada sourced silver. Tin Cup Roundup Saturday Sept. 21, 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. please join the Friends of the Nevada State Museum at the Nevada Governor’s Mansion, 606 Mountain Street in Carson City, for the Tin Cup Roundup Barbecue, a fundraiser to restore the Nevada State Museum’s classic 1967 Chevrolet Stepside Pickup! Enjoy live music from Keith Alan Barnett and the Lonesome Polecat Band, dancing, raffle prizes, auctions, and, of course, scrumptious barbecue! Ticket price of $75 includes two drink vouchers and a chance to win the door prize, a replica 1870 Liberty Seated Half Dollar Commemorative Medallion ($125 value) struck from .999 native Nevada fine silver!!
