From shopping, travel, dining, healthcare, or entertainment, many discounts are available nationwide and locally here in Columbus. Best discounts, benefits and freebies for seniors • AARP DiscountsOne of the best ways to save in nearly every category is to join the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) which offers access to exclusive deals, rewards and other benefits. While the organization is "dedicated to people over 50," it accepts members of all ages and charges a small annual fee for access to its program. • Columbus Metro ParksMetro Parks offers a variety of free programs for seniors 50 and older, promoting an active and healthy lifestyle with options for those needing more assistance. Activities range from slow-paced walks to strenuous hikes, and senior groups can schedule custom programs or have an educator visit their facility. For more information, call (614) 508-8004. • Columbus Museum of ArtThe museum offers a membership discount of 10% for seniors (60+), educators, and students. The offer applies to Individual, Family, and Reciprocal level memberships. Those who wish to receive one of these discounts must present a valid photo ID, educator ID or proof of active class enrollment. Discounts are not available online and may not be applied retroactively or combined with other promotions. • Columbus Recreation and Parks Senior ServicesThe Columbus Recreation and Parks senior program is for people 50+. It gives older adults access to some of the organization's activities and active relaxation programs. All members have access to the senior fitness centers and senior sports programs.  Membership is free. Registration must be renewed at your 50+ center every January.• Priority for vacationing and educational trips.• Priority registration for all senior (50+) classes and activities.• Membership to any of the 50+ centers and all four multi-generational facilities.• A Columbus Recreation and Parks Leisure Card is also required, and registration must be completed in person. • COTA (Central Ohio Transit Authority)The Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA) offers a 50% discount on bus fares for people 65 or older. Riders must provide a photo ID with their birthdate. The Senior ID is valid for three years.  • Dublin ConnectorFare-free rides for any Dublin resident aged 55 or older, and any Dublin resident with disabilities. For information call (833) 742-7333. Hours of operation are Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. • Franklin County Senior OptionsSenior Options is the "one-stop shopping" point for information and access to senior services including:• Home-Delivered Meals• Personal Care• Respite Care• Adult Day Care• Emergency Response Systems• Minor Home Repair Residents must reside in Franklin County and be 60 years or older. Seniors can enroll by calling (614) 525-6200 on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. • Golden Buckeye CardOhioans aged 60 or older and Ohio residents aged 18-59 with a disability are eligible for the Golden Buckeye Card. Seniors can follow the Golden Buckeye Program page on Facebook for business suggestions, shopping tips, consumer alerts, and more.  The Golden Buckeye program partners with Ohio State Parks to offer significant discounts on camping, cottages, and getaway rentals.
