A fire caused severe damage to the Plank Road Tavern in Montville Township early in the morning on Sept. 17. Montville Assistant Fire Chief Bryan Briskey said the call came in at 4:09 a.m. and the department arrived on scene at 16399 GAR Highway and confirmed a working fire at the tavern. Sixteen departments from Lake, Geauga and Ashtabula counties provided mutual aid. Briskey said no firefighters were injured and the fire was put out at 7:28 a.m. There is no estimate on damage, but Briskey said it was significant although he could not confirm if the building is a total loss. The fire is still under investigation by Geauga Fire and the state fire marshal. State Route 6 between Route 86 and Route 528 had to be closed for a lengthy period of time and ODOT was called to assist,
