Through her own words, learn about Lucretia Garfield’s dedication to her assassinated husband’s memory during a free program at  noon Oct. 9 at Mentor Public Library’s Main Branch, 8215 Mentor Ave. The widow Garfield lived another 36 and a half years after her husband, President James Garfield, was murdered. Discover how she occupied these decades and how her children achieved their own destinies, according to a news release. Debbie Weinkamer, the lead volunteer of James A. Garfield National Historic Site, will be the presenter — in character, as Lucretia Garfield. The program is open to all, but due to limited space, registration is required. Sign up at www.mentorpl.org or call the library at 440-255-8811 ext. 1.
