PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The Providence School Board announced that the district has experienced a network security breach. School Board President Erlin Rogel said they are meeting in an executive session Wednesday night to learn how the breach happened, what steps are being taken to resolve it, and how they are supporting students and families. "We also want to learn what liability resides with our network security vendor and what measures are being taken to ensure this doesn’t happen again," Rogel added. BACKGROUND: Providence schools without internet as they deal with ‘unprecedented’ network outage The district announced earlier this week they were unable to access the internet for days following "irregular network activity" detected on the network. Providence Public School District spokesperson Jay Wegimont told Target 12 on Monday that the district had been in touch with local and federal law authorities as a result of the activity.
