WORCESTER, Mass. (WWLP) - Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Campbell has provided an update on the investigation into the Massachusetts State Police recruit's death. Officials investigating death of State Police recruit Enrique Delgado-Garcia Campbell said that she expects a decision will be made soon on who will investigate how Enrique Delgado-Garcia died. The 25-year-old-old died at a hospital on Friday, one day after a training exercise at the State Police Academy. The attorney general is deciding the next steps in the investigation. The Worcester D.A. declined to oversee the investigation due to the recruit's close relationship with the office. Instead, an outside agency will be investigating. But that is complicated by the fact that all of the other D.A.s have state police detectives assigned to them. Westfield State University Athletics also released an official statement Tuesday on the death of Enrique Delgado-Garcia, who was a student-athlete on the cross-country track and field teams. He graduated from the university with a degree in criminal justice in 2022. The statement reads in part, "Those lucky enough to share space with Enrique had the gift of experiencing his warm smile, positive outlook on life, and the ongoing supportive love that he constantly shared with others."
