WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (WGHP) -- The constant rainfall on Tuesday didn't just impact our coast but a home in Winston-Salem as well. A homeowner was inside their house off Old Rural Hall Road when a tree fell on it. Ray Tomlinson says the house was built in 1946 and has withstood many storms. Unfortunately, it couldn't withstand the storm that rolled through Winston-Salem. Ray says while his wife Cindy was running errands, he was watching TV at home when he heard a loud noise that sounded like thunder. "The worst clap of thunder you've heard, and it kept going," Ray said. He wanted to know what the sound was and looked out the window. "I saw a part of my roof hanging down. ... I ran out the back because I couldn't get out the front and, all I could think of is, 'Thank you, Lord, that nobody got hurt,'" Ray said. Thanks to neighbors lending him a camper to stay in, Ray says he and his wife are in good hands.  Ray says crews will be at his home Wednesday morning to remove the tree and hopefully restore power.
