It turned out to be a dreary and somewhat damp Tuesday across Central and Eastern Kentucky as the leftovers of a tropical low to our southeast kept overcast conditions across a good chunk of the area but also brough some beneficial rain as well. While a few spots saw nothing measurable, we ended up with some decent showers Tuesday afternoon here on the Bluegrass region with a pretty good soaking for parts of Southeastern Kentucky as a few of the Kentucky Mesonet sites ended up with around 1″ of rain. With all the clouds and showers around, afternoon highs were held in check with most spots topping out in the low to mid-70s while others remained in the 60s where the rain stuck around longer. Heading into the mid-week the area of low pressure will weaken a bit so the amount of available moisture should be lower. With should see some breaks in the cloud cover with partly sunny skies expected on Wednesday afternoon as afternoon highs recover back into the low 80s. There is still the chance of a few scattered showers, especially with the afternoon warmth but these will be closer to what is left of the low to our south which should put our southern and southeastern counties more in-line for a scattered shower or two. The overall shower chances should wind down into the late week as an upper level ridge of high pressure builds to build eastward out of the Central Plains. This will allow the overall warming process to continue with afternoon highs expected to climb into the upper 80s to close out the week on Friday thanks to a good bit of sunshine around. Temperatures look to be nearly 10 degrees above average for the final few days of the summer season so it’s going down without a fight heading into late September. The one silver lining is that our humidity levels won’t be high so it isn’t looking overly muggy this weekend There are aplenty of events and fall festivals beginning to crank up and this weekend is no exception. Of course Kentucky football is at home again this Saturday against Ohio University at 12:45pm over at Kroger Field. Afternoon highs are expected to make a run at the 90 degree mark with a lot of sunshine expected so you’ll want to wear a hat and/or plenty of sunscreen and make sure you hydrate properly despite the lack of any serious humidity. Let’s face it, sitting in the 90 degree heat and sunshine for nearly 3 hours will have an impact so keep that in mind. Fall officially arrives this Sunday morning but it won’t feel like it. Heading into next week our overall temperatures pattern should stay above average for late September with highs remaining in the 80s but some of that is dependent on the timing of a front which could bring a few showers back to the area early next week.
