MCINTOSH COUNTY, Ga. (WSAV) - The McIntosh County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) said on Tuesday, just after 9:30 a.m., they were made aware of a man carrying a backpack with a knife and scissors at McIntosh County Academy. According to the MCSO, the suspect was identified as 40-year-old Camden County resident, Peter Christopher Morrell. Authorities say Morrell was located near highway 17 at the McIntosh County Recreation Fields, identified remotely by a student who observed him earlier, and detained. Suspect who shot 9-year-old girl arrested, CCSO says According to the McIntosh County Academy's School Resource Deputy, a student alerted faculty that the man was seen entering the area of the front access gate off Highway 17. The school then implemented lock down procedures. Morrell was placed under arrest for Criminal Trespass. He also had an active arrest warrant out of Glynn County for Criminal Trespass, authorities say. The McIntosh County Office of the Sheriff Criminal Investigators are working to identify if there was any motive in Morrell's act.
