Police also noted any misdemeanor drug-related convictions would be scrutinized and if an applicant has a military background, they must have received a discharge under honorable conditions. The application period runs through the end of November. The training academy has several phases including a physical fitness test, written exam, oral interview, background investigation, medical evaluation and another physical fitness pre-test before entering the academy. On Saturday, Oct. 5, the department will hold an open house so applicants can learn more about those requirements, the academy, and the job itself.
