Statesville Man Charged With Elderly Identity Theft

STATESVILLE, N.C. – The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office has arrested and charged a man for allegedly using an elderly person’s bank accounts and financial cards, according to a news release.
The release that on April 1, the Sheriff’s Office receive a report about a possible fraud involving an elderly victim. Sheriff Campbell states the victim’s credit cards and financial accounts were compromised and used fraudulently.
As a result of an investigation, it was discovered a family member of the victim, 39-year-old Joshua Mayberry, had been fraudulently using the victim’s bank accounts and financial cards for unauthorized purchased.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Mayberry had been accessing the victim’s finances since April 2018.
Search warrants were executed to obtain documentation and evidence from financial services and institutions, resulting in Mayberry’s arrest.
He was charged with:
Seven counts of felony identity theft
Felony exploitation of disabled/elder from a position of trust – over $100,000
Felony obtaining property by false pretense – over $100,000
