The Baton Rouge Metro Council will adopt the 2024 adjusted and increased tax millage rates during a public hearing at its meeting Wednesday evening. The meeting was initially scheduled for last week but was postponed due to Hurricane Francine. Several taxing districts will decrease millage rates for 2024 following the reappraisal and reassessment. Those decreases include: East Baton Rouge Parish operating tax, down to 2.96 mills from 3.13. City of Baton Rouge operating tax, down to 5.44 mills from 5.75 mills. East Baton Rouge Parish Library tax, down to 9.89 mills from 10.52 mills. Downtown Development District tax, down to 9.50 mills from 10 mills. Three taxing districts—EMS, Baton Rouge Fire Salaries and Benefits, and Fire Protection No. 1—opted to keep their millage rates the same this year as in 2023, which amounts to a tax increase due to higher assessed property values. Also on Wednesday, an item authorizing the mayor-president to accept a $3.5 million grant from the Louisiana Workforce Commission to administer the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act Program for the grant period of July 1, 2024, through June 30, 2026, will be introduced.
